Daggerheart (2025)

Overview

Daggerheart is a fantasy tabletop role-playing game published by Darrington Press, an imprint of Critical Role Productions. The game was released in 2025.

Description

Daggerheart is a story-docused role-playing game system, where the rules direct players to think narratively and not just mechanically. The game uses a system called Duality Dice, where players roll two twelve-sided dice. One for Hope and one for Fear. In addition to determining whether the character achieves success or fails at the action they are trying to perform, it also generates a helpful Hope resource for the player, or a challenging Fear resource for the game master (GM). Lead designer Spenser Starke explained that there is "also no initiative in Daggerheart". It functions very much like a
Forged in the Dark https://groupfinder.eu/library/forged-in-the-dark-2017
or a
Powered By The Apocalypse
game, where the GM is making moves on certain dice rolls and we're passing play back and forth as a conversation. It all flows together in a way that supports the storytelling-first direction that Critical Role has really embraced over the last decade". The game features 279 supplemental cards to track player abilities and characteristics. Darrington Press also launched several digital resources, including an online custom card creator.

CAMPAIGN FRAME: Beneath The Neon Sky Pitch: New Horizon City stands tall amongst the powers of the new world in its shining towers, luxury districts, and dense population. A place where outsiders and foreigners alike see prosperity and stability upon meeting its gaze. But beneath its surface lies an underworld ruled not by elected officials or some governing body, but by various gangs and criminal organizations. Ones whose influence touch every corner of the city. The wealthy and powerful have long intermingled their fortunes with organized crime and as a direct result, created a place where favors carry debt, where every street is claimed, and the citizens are caught in the struggle between rival factions vying for control. In a Beneath The Neon Sky campaign, you'll play street level people navigating the dangerous web of gang politics, criminal enterprises, and ever shifting alliances that shape daily life within the city. It doesn't matter if you're chasing money, power, revenge, or just trying to survive another day. You'll quickly learn that the city has two important lessons. There are no heroes. And every choice can be your last. The Good, the Bad and the Enormous!

Adult
The table is for players who are 18 or over.
Platform: Discord (Voice) + HeartofDaggers (character sheets) + Foundry VTT (maps and battle maps) Players: 4–5 | Level 2 characters, created together before we start The Setup The Drylands are frontier country. Prospectors and mages dig Essentia out of these hard hills, and everyone is trying to carve off a piece of it before somebody else does. You have been out on the flats for months. Whatever the job was, it is done and the pay is in your pocket. Now you are riding back into Miquera, the little town in the Caradondo mountain pass. One main street, a saloon, a general store, an old stone church. You can see the smoke long before you reach it. The ground is shaking. Stones are coming down off the peaks. The church spire is leaning, the saloon is burning, and people you have known your whole life are running in the street with buckets that are not going to be enough. Old Jess out by the claim always said the veins were the bones of something sleeping. She said the old gods left their titans in the ground, and that men who dig deep enough will one day dig too deep. Nobody ever paid her much mind. They will now. Expectations & Requirements Player Knowledge: You should have a general understanding of how the basic Daggerheart rules work. We'll build characters together on HeartofDaggers before we start, so no prep needed on your end. Tech Requirements: A working headset and a decent microphone are required for clean audio on Discord. Tone: A frontier western where the ground itself turns against the town. Gameplay: Rescue, investigation, tough choices, and a finale that will test the whole party.

Age of Umbra Campaign - Daggerheart

An ongoing, weekly campaign in the Dark Fantasy Setting of the Age of Umbra Campaign Frame. You are one of the Enduring in a world that was abandoned by it's gods. A century has passed since the God-King Othedias betrayed the Pantheon, provoking divine punishment and abandonment by the gods that left the realm of the Halcyon Domain shattered, desolate, and eternally cursed. Throughout this shadow-choked land of decaying fortresses and dreadful monstrosities, surviving communities cling to hope in the face of lightless oblivion. In an Age of Umbra campaign, you’ll play heroic survivors who protect their community from the terrors beyond their walls, venture out into the unknown to hunt the nightmares that twist and grow with each fallen soul, seek answers to the curses that corrupt this world, and perhaps even discover a way to change its fate. Gris
Hello there! I'm Gris (she/her), I started playing TTRPGs as a kid, and got really into them in 2012 with Pathfinder 1e. Since then I've played a lot of systems and GMd my fair share, but what I like the most are the narrative driven ones with fun, creative people, like Blades in the Dark. I also recently got into Solo RPGs, but I do miss the interacting with people and the back and forth of a group. Life is busy and chaotic, and as many of you might have experienced, scheduling is the greatest monster for any game. Which is why I am looking for a game or community of other imaginative people to play, talk games, scenarios, and other nerd topics. I am a parent, so ideally people +30 years old, LGBTQ+ friendly, and with a passion for sci-fi and fantasy, books, and creative endeavours.  I lean towards a narrative-first playstyle: I love weaving characters into the party’s story and leaning into the lore. And I'm a flexible support player, happy to fill in roles that help the group shine. Apart from TTRPGs and nerd stuff, I love to garden and I'm excited about my plants this year, and cooking, and can always talk about plants and food.

Is DnD still king? A deep dive into Groupfinder’s 2026 matchmaking data

TTRPG
In the world of tabletop gaming, there is one system that towers above all others. Whether you are a veteran of the hobby or just getting into it, you are aware of the elephant in the room. As the hobby evolves with new rulesets and indie titles, we dived deep into the numbers we are seeing on Groupfinder. Based on the currently active posts on Groupfinder, which comes down to 1560 active players and 688 active groups, here are some numbers that better describe the current landscape. /images/general-media/1775486691_3CWZADDB.pngThe current active posts on Groupfinder, as of April 6, 2026. You can see the live numbers here. The dominance of D&D It will come as no surprise to most of us, that Dungeons & Dragons remains as the dominant force in the hobby space. And while some of us (generally veterans who have played for a long period of time) feel like D&D has outlived itself and is losing to the newer titles. The numbers tell another story: Groups: ~60% of all the groups currently looking for players are for Dungeons and Dragons, either 5.5E, 5E or some previous edition. Players: If groups are over half, then the player side is even steeper. As 90% of all player posts on Groupfinder are looking for a D&D game. While many players are also open to playing other game systems, the vast majority still treats D&D as their go-to system. Looking to start your TTRPG hobby journey? It seems like you should find a dungeons and dragons group first. Beyond just D&D An encouraging trend we can see from our data, is the players' willingness to experiment and also try something else. While 90% of the players are looking to play D&D, they aren't only looking for a D&D group. When we exclude Dungeons & Dragons from the statistics, we can draw a clear "Top 5" of adjacent systems. Based on the currently active posts in April 2026, these are the most popular systems on Groupfinder right now: Pathfinder 1 & Pathfinder 2 combined Daggerheart Call of Cthulhu Vampire: The Masquerade Cyberpunk RED /images/general-media/1775485987_rve3K01J.pngCurrently popular systems (players and groups combined) The Groupfinder Library We believe that exposing players to alternative systems will keep the hobby-space fresh and thriving. This is why we have created the Groupfinder Library - an all-encompassing collection of various resources: Tools, Platforms, Creators, Communities and Game systems. We are hoping that players looking for a D&D game, might stumble upon some other game system in the library and discover that the hobby isn't just Dungeons & Dragons. Perhaps their journey won't have a traditional start and their first game is something else entirely. By lowering the barrier to entry for non-D&D systems, we hope to make the hobby more diverse and vibrant for everyone. 10.04.2026 Edit: The library is now live - read more about it in our Update log. Are you already part of the data? Whether you are a DM looking for a party or a player looking for a home, your voice helps us understand where the hobby is going. Looking for a game? Browse the player profiles and let DMs find you. Looking for players? Take a look at all the groups looking for players and start your next adventure. What is Groupfinder? Groupfinder is a free global tabletop gaming "looking for group/players" matchmaking platform. The platform's growing userbase is a clear indication of a need for such an unifying place.  Read more about the platform here.

Monster of the Week
Welcome to The Critshow - an actual play podcast where a group of friends uses tabletop role playing games to walk the line between humor, horror and heart. Focused on character-driven storytelling, our show features a variety of systems, from pulse-pounding horror to high fantasy to fast-paced sci-fi and beyond. Whether you're a seasoned gamer or new to TTRPGs, The Critshow offers engaging narratives, hilarious moments, and captivating arcs that will keep you coming back every Wednesday. Seasons 1-6: The Other Side of the Coin - Three friends find themselves as the last line of defense between the everyday world and the things that go bump in the night. Using Monster of the Week and other Powered by the Apocalypse games, the team works to save the Omniverse in this dimension hopping story. Season 7: The Clockwinders – Cadvini is in peril and it’s up to a group of Clockwinders in training to rediscover and repair the movement cores to save their world from the looming threat of destruction by fire, frost, and Fey. Using the Fate system in a world where there are eons of lost history, players unlock a world's worth of mysterious lore. Shows The Clockwinders The planet Cadvini is dying. Tidally locked, with one side a burning wasteland, and the other side a frozen forever-night, its people have managed to forge their lives in the temperate zone between. But the great old machines that keep the planet steady, called Movement Cores, have started to break down. The planet is beginning to spin, which could mean the ruin of all. Join Arkady ‘Kade’ Atwater, Einon Kerning, and Maxine Hollis as they venture across the wilds in order to find and fix the broken cores. They have Fey folk, aether-enhanced beasts, and all other manner of dangers to face… but this is their duty. They are The Clockwinders. Shadows in the Smoke Shadows in the Smoke tells the story of Hargrave House, a group of mysterious investigators in Victorian London who tackle the cases that Scotland Yard can’t or won’t. Amidst the monsters and murderers on the shadowy streets, an ancient power is growing in strength – a Queen in her own right, seeking vengeance against Victoria. Can the hunters discover her plot and save Queen and country, or will they succumb to their own darkness and become little more than the monsters they once hunted? Find out in Shadows in the Smoke, a Victorian gothic horror Actual Play utilizing The Between by Jason Cordova. Other Side of the Coin Our Monster of the Week campaign, wherein the characters are alternate-universe versions of the players themselves. Imagine that one minor thing could mean  the difference between our universe and another; something as simple as a  coin flip having the opposite result can lead to two drastically  different outcomes. We set the game in what is  essentially our world, albeit a version in which one small  decision changed the course of our hunters’ lives and set them on a  completely different path. While Monster of the Week will always  be the “home base” of our show to which our team will return,  our show is that it exists in a Powered By the  Apocalypse universe with many worlds… each of which conveniently seems  to be set within a different PBtA game!
