Mage: The Ascension

We wanted this system in the library before we had time to write it properly, so consider this entry a placeholder. If you've got hours logged with it, we'd love your help turning this into something worth reading - reach out.

Overview

Mage: The Ascension is a modern-day supernatural roleplaying game created by Stewart Wieck and a team of designers at White Wolf Publishing, first released in 1993 as the third of White Wolf's original
World of Darkness https://groupfinder.gg/library/world-of-darkness
game lines, following
Vampire: The Masquerade https://www.groupfinder.gg/library/vampire-the-masquerade-5e-2018
and
Werewolf: The Apocalypse
. It went through a second edition in 1995 and a Revised Edition in 2000, largely overseen by Phil Brucato, before Onyx Path Publishing released the 20th Anniversary Edition in 2015, the version most tables run today. Where Vampire is about hunger and Werewolf is about rage, Mage is about belief: player characters are ordinary people who have Awakened to the understanding that reality itself is negotiable, and the game is built entirely around the consequences of acting on that understanding.

Well met, stranger. I'm hiddenson. I've played different rpgs since the 90's, mostly as GM. I prefer GMing because I love world building and long-term campaigns. I revel in many layered plots that peel like a bag of onions, tuning preset worlds to my signature flavor of horror and hardcore mechanics. My style is deeply immersive, roleplay heavy, and Rule of Cool. I prefer acting in the first person with people who invest creativity in their characters. At the moment, I'd like to focus on horror games and Cyberpunk. I'd love to play other settings of the World of Darkness. I have extensive experience in Call of Cthulhu in the 1920's as well as in Cyberpunk 2020 so I'll adapt to new editions easily. Lastly, I have little to no experience in the other titles, but I'm eager to try them out. I lean into characters hungry for lore rather than riches. Think erudite professors risking their sanity in eldritch tomes, or tomb raiding archaeologists uncovering more than they bargained for. I recently launched a paid Vampire: The Masquerade Chronicle, so I'm willing to trade seats if our playstyles and game list match. Regarding scheduling, I'm available every day (but would prefer playing every other week) from 9pm to 2am GMT+2, so don't let the timezone be an obstacle to our meeting. Hit me up with your best message and let's tempt fate together!

Oy there,  Let's run down the stats yeah? Name...Why? Who you with? You got a three letter org backing you? Hmmm...alright then, Patrick. Most people call me Giant though, my wife started it. I just accept it.  Age an ancient, decrepit 44 years of age.  Location: Kent, Washington, the PNW! Home of Bridge Trolls (no really), Bigfoot, Glaciers and whimsy! That's the basics, the most basic of basics if you will.  What I'm looking for is a very chill group. Like, the vibes need to be on point. We're talking acceptance, whimsy, patience, laughs and a general cheery disposition all around.  I need folks who are patient with people who have had a traumatic brain injury (I was introduced to a cement wall at high speeds as a youth). I struggle with nailing down mechanics, it takes a while to really cement them in my head. So I'll often be "Uh...Uh....Uh...*click* is that it?"ing around or "Remiiiiiind me how I...."... I'm also exceedingly awkward and shy around new groups. It's a challenge, the anxiety is real and hasn't abaited in my ADVANCED age. If anything it's gotten worse.  Despite being a human of unusual size, I'm soft spoken. It's not you, it's me. But I'll warm up.  I value "Rule of Cool" over hard mechanics. Rules are great, but I wanna avoid sitting there awkwardly as folks argue over the fine details.  Most importantly, diversity, acceptance and a critical, oh so importance lack of judgement. I'm just a straight CIS dude, but like...come on. Be chill about how others exist yeah? We're all in the world together and arbitrary lines seperating us is just sillyness.  Anyways, That's me.

Looking for a Mage: The Ascension Table Hey everyone! I'm looking to join a Mage: The Ascension table and hopefully find a group I can stick with long-term. A little about me: I'm 22 years old and relatively new to the **World of Darkness** universe. While I haven't had much direct experience playing WoD games, I've been an enthusiast of the setting and its lore for quite some time. Mage immediately caught my attention when I first discovered it, and I fell in love with the system's themes, philosophies, and the endless possibilities created by different paradigms and beliefs. I enjoy roleplay-heavy games and love exploring a setting through my character's perspective. Learning about the world, interacting with its factions, and discovering its nuances are some of my favorite parts of tabletop RPGs. For me, part of the fun comes from a character's flaws and mistakes. I'm the kind of player who enjoys leaning into those imperfections rather than trying to play the most optimal or successful character possible. I think failures, bad decisions, and personal struggles often create the most memorable stories and add a lot of depth to a character. A few other things about me:  I'm Brazilian (GMT-3). English isn't my first language, so I may occasionally make mistakes while speaking or struggle to find the right word. That said, I'm perfectly comfortable communicating in English and I'm always trying to improve. One of my goals is to make friends outside my country and get more opportunities to practice English. I'm LGBTQ+ friendly and appreciate inclusive tables where everyone feels welcome. My availability is generally: Mondays  Fridays  Sunday afternoons  Saturday nights I'm somewhat flexible depending on the group's schedule. Overall, I'm looking for a friendly group that doesn't mind having an enthusiastic newcomer to Mage around. I'm eager to learn, roleplay, explore the setting, and hopefully create some great stories together. If you have an open spot or know a group that might be a good fit, feel free to reach out!

Welcome to Weird Games and Weirder People, my name is Diogo Nogueira and I will be your host in a series of interviews or chats I am having with creators and artists from the tabletop RPG scene, especially the weird “Indie” people, who creates more personal and, why not, weirder games, weirder, art, weirder fiction, and so on. That’s the stuff I crave, and I think many of us do as well. Weird Games and Weirder People is a podcast about role playing games and the weird wonderful people bedim them. This is the show where we welcome the weirdness both inside and outside each and everyone of us, and talk about how we harness its power to our creations. Gamma World is a post-apocalyptic science fantasy roleplaying game created by James M. Ward and Gary Jaquet, first published by TSR in 1978. Over more than four decades the game has been rebuilt from the ground up seven times by nearly as many publishers, and the most recent overhaul came in 2010, when Wizards of the Coast released a stripped-down, card-driven edition built on a pared-back version of the Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition engine.  Where D&D sends heroes out to save a kingdom, Gamma World drops mutant scavengers into the wreckage of a shattered Earth to fight over technology nobody left alive still understands. Description Gamma World is gonzo by design. A character isn't built so much as collided into existence: two randomly rolled Origins get mashed together into one being, however little sense the combination makes ("I'm a Radioactive Yeti," to use the game's own example). From there, characters spend the session drawing from decks of mutation and salvage cards that shift constantly - the powers a character has at the start of a fight are rarely the ones they'll have by the end of it.  Combat is lethal and character turnover is high, so the game leans into its own chaos rather than fighting it: sessions play fast, tonally silly, and are built to be picked up and put down in a single evening rather than carried across a long campaign.
