A War Ravaged Fantasy Game

The world of Larasa is a galactic nexus, a gem that floats through the infinite cosmos, linking worlds from this and other realities. It is a former home to an enigmatic species, of whom no record remains, except for the ancient relics and structures, many long forgotten and haunted by creatures seeking a stronghold from humanity's aggressive expansion. On the most populous continent, Kaman, humans have built kingdoms in relative peace, only clashing with similarly expanding kingdoms of other nations or when encountering other species also vying for territory. For close to 1,500 years, an equilibrium has been established between the nations, with sporadic turmoil, but mostly a peaceful coexistence. The great Ildrath Empire rules a region so vast that it would take a rider many months to cross it on horseback. While to the North-East the Northern Kingdoms spread among many nations with their own leadership and cultures, to the West the people of Soul lead harsh lives in the great forests, forever menaced by the grey horde from the vast Western plains. Other species call Kaman home also, living uneasily with their unpredictable human neighbours, the most well-known being the Dwarves, who trade gems, metals and marvels of engineering; the Goblin kin, a strange and untrustworthy creature, shunned by all, except the most desperate humans and unknown numbers of other things hidden in mountains, jungles and the deepest deserts. It is in this strange, yet familiar world that your heroes will confront a looming darkness that emerges upon the red wings of a new age. I am looking at running the game weekly in person from Frankston, from 7:30 pm until 10:30 pm The system will be a d100 skill-based one. No Fee for this game

Any more mature folks out there looking to join a DnD group to play in person in Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs? We’ve been playing as a group out of Warrandyte on Thursday evenings, 6.30-9.30pm, for close to a year now, and have some player slots that have come available We’re relearning the basics and getting up to speed with the 5.5 edition rules so if you’ve not played before (or are a bit rusty) but fancy giving it a go with like minded folks (who often get side tracked with Monty Pythonesque humour), this could be a good introduction (or reintroduction), with a welcoming and novice-friendly group Note - no game fee, but there's a small fee for use of the community centre where we meet which, at time of writing, is a flat $40 AUD for the year

Tyler
Player: Tyler — Tactical, Reliable, Team‑Focused I’m a mechanically competent, tactically minded D&D player who thrives in structured, combat‑focused campaigns. I play with intention, keep pacing smooth, and help elevate the table without ever stealing spotlight. My style is midline control/skirmisher: smart positioning, tempo management, and teamwork‑driven play. I’m consistent, reliable, and low‑maintenance. I take notes, track details, and help reduce DM cognitive load. I avoid derailing scenes, support quieter players, and maintain table tone. My goal is simple: make the game fun, focused, and easy for everyone — especially the DM. Ideal campaigns:  Tactical combat, structured pacing, rules‑consistent tables, cooperative parties. Playstyle: - I enjoy combat, and prefer roleplaying combat and tactical strategies, not number chasing hitbot, i.e. I consider environment hazards, vantage points, tactical strategies, friendly-fire, action economy - I enjoy immersing in the DM's campaign" storyline and exploration (I tend not to derail from the storyline or cause mishap to the party & waste time, unless ofc, within the storyline) - I prefer an open-minded group, the players should be able to decide what they want to do, i.e. clerics not expected to become a healbot - I tend to put "restrictions" on my own character(s) to make the power feel earned (not given) & for enriching character story - I take notes, to lessen the burden on DM Questions from me to DMs: - How do you rule combat? Do you play on a grid (I generally play battlefield control, and it's generally easier to "control" on a grid)? - What character level will the characters go up to at the end of the campaign? (I'm a late gamer, so if the campaign doesn't reach late game capstone, I'll need to adjust my character ideas) - If any cost to join, please specify. - Are players expected to contribute anything on the game day, i.e. bring own dice, bring snacks etc - Do you allow your players to homebrew species/background/classes/subclasses (I'm not against)? If so, are they balanced compared to the published content?

Tabletop gaming in Melbourne

Melbourne is often called Australia’s cultural capital, and its tabletop scene fits that reputation - creative, varied and very active. Game stores, cafés and bars across the city host campaigns, drop-in nights and board game meetups.

D&D is the easiest table to find, but Melbourne is also a great place to try indie RPGs, narrative games and smaller systems. Many groups are happy to teach new players - no prep required.

The city hosts PAX Aus, one of the biggest gaming events in the country, with a large tabletop section for demos and play.
