Created by an independent developer, it positions itself as a streamlined, "distraction-free" alternative to complex wikis like World Anvil. In 2025, the platform gained massive popularity on social media for its "clean UI" and its strict No-AI pledge, promising that all art and assets on the platform are created by human artists.  Description VVD is built for the "sparks of inspiration." It uses a card-based system to organize NPCs, locations, and magic items, allowing users to connect them visually through an interactive graph. Unlike traditional folder-heavy organizers, VVD feels like a digital corkboard or a personalized Wikipedia that prioritizes aesthetics and ease of use. It is a web-based tool, meaning it requires an internet connection, but it is highly optimized for mobile devices, making it a favorite for GMs who need to jot down world-building notes on the go.

Inkroll is a web platform for playing tabletop RPGs play-by-post: asynchronously, in written posts, on each player's own schedule, with a human gamemaster running the table. It sits between heavyweight real-time VTTs and plain forum software; the writing stays the point, but the platform actually understands characters, dice, secrets, and the GM's role instead of leaving them on the side. It is also, deliberately, a beautiful place to spend a campaign. Inkroll was built by play-by-post players who wanted the game to read as well as it plays: a calm, candlelit page of ink and parchment where posts get the space of a book, quoted speech and images are cleanly styled, and every table can choose the look and post layout that suit its story. The tools stay out of the way until the moment a hand reaches for them, so a session feels like reading and writing a novel with friends, not operating software. Dice are typed straight into a post, like {Perception:1d20+2}, rolled once on the server the moment the post is published, then frozen, with a per-post audit the whole table can see, so a result can never be edited or quietly re-rolled. Players post as their characters, with portraits, versioned character sheets, and quick stat updates (hit points, spell slots, conditions) committed together with the post. GMs get sealed passages delivered to exactly the players they choose, chapters, scene notes with a world map and a per-chapter battle map, and live updates with typing indicators and read markers, so an asynchronous table still feels alive. Long campaigns are first-class citizens: the Chronicle keeps a running recap of every chapter and every character met, and answers questions from the campaign's own posts, so a returning player or a newcomer catches up in minutes. And because a campaign written like a book deserves to become one, a finished game can be exported as a designed, print-ready PDF or EPUB. Games already in progress can be imported from Myth-Weavers or Discord with posts, characters, images, and dice results intact. Ready-made sheets cover D&D Fifth Edition, Pathfinder 2e, Call of Cthulhu, Shadowrun, Cortex Prime, and Grimwild, plus a system-agnostic option and a builder for custom rulesets with their own dice mechanics. Obsidian is a free, locally-stored Markdown note-taking application that the TTRPG community has widely adopted as a campaign wiki, session planner, and lore database. Originally designed as a personal knowledge management tool, it stores everything as plain text files on your own machine with no subscription required. Description Unlike purpose-built platforms such as World Anvil, Obsidian was not designed with TTRPGs in mind, which means it arrives without templates, stat block support, or any TTRPG-specific structure out of the box. GMs who want those features need to install and configure community plugins themselves, which carries a steeper setup cost than dedicated alternatives. For those comfortable with that process, however, the result is a highly customizable system with no ongoing fees and no vendor lock-in. A thriving plugin ecosystem has filled most of the gaps, and the tool has become a genuine alternative to subscription-based worldbuilding platforms for technically comfortable Game Masters. The plugin ecosystem extends well beyond what is listed here, with community tools covering everything from database-style note querying and cross-device sync to interactive maps and combat automation. SAKE is a traditional tabletop roleplaying game with a touch of strategy game. It is a crunchy, modular, d20 point-buy game set in an early-modern fantasy world, with detailed systems for domain-building and overseas trading. Description In SAKE, you play the ruler of a domain, a merchant prince, a pirate lord or start as an adventurer with the goal of rising to power. You delve into dungeons, explore pockets of the Otherworld to find treasures, make pacts with fickle gods, study dangerous magic, scheme to assassinate rivals, trade to gather resources and raise an army to fight wars. SAKE is a full point buy system, which means all character development happens by buying skills and abilities using EXP gained from your character's personality traits and events during gameplay. SAKE is designed to take place in an early modern (fantasy) world, with muskets and plate armour, cannons and galleys, rising capitalism and waning feudalism. With magic and gods mixed in. The game's rules support more serious types of campaigns, like balancing between different political interest groups when playing domain ruler, or deciding how far one is ready to go when meddling with gods or magic for power that could save their party and/or domain.
