Draw Steel (2025)

Overview

Draw Steel is a tactical heroic fantasy tabletop roleplaying game designed by Matt Colville and the team at MCDM Productions. It is built to provide a modern, cinematic alternative to traditional d20 fantasy games. It focuses on high action, tactical depth, and ensuring that every player character feels like a legendary hero from the very first level. The system it is a spiritual successor to is
Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition https://groupfinder.eu/library/dungeons-dragons-4e-2008
Description In Draw Steel, players take on the roles of Heroes. Unlike other systems, the characters are heroes from the start. The characters are already capable of taking on the world and whatever threats may arise. The system encourages a highly tactical approach to combat encounters, promoting teamwork and clever use of abilities to control and affect any battlefield they might find themselves at. System Overview & Key Features
The 2d10 Core Mechanic The game abandons the d20 focus and instead offers two ten-sided dice (2d10) instead. This creates a better mathematical average and becomes more predictable and reliable.
No To Hit Rolls Draw Steel eliminates the traditional roll to hit. Instead, heroes automatically hit their targets with their primary abilities, but they roll to determine how much Power or impact the effect has. This keeps the game focused on making meaningful tactical choices rather than wasting turns on a miss.
Heroic Resources Each class manages a unique resource, such as Focus or Valor, which builds up during a fight. These resources are spent to activate powerful Signature Moves and Heroic Abilities, ensuring that combat has a rising sense of drama and escalation as the heroes grow more powerful the longer a battle lasts.
Tactical Movement and Forced Position Combat is designed for a grid. Many abilities do more than just deal damage; they allow players to slide, push, or pull enemies and allies across the battlefield. Positioning is vital, and the environment is intended to be a weapon that heroes can use to their advantage.
Tiered Success Action resolution often uses three tiers of success. A low roll might provide a success with a cost, a middle roll is a standard success, and a high roll is a spectacular success that might trigger bonus effects or additional damage. This ensures that every roll contributes something to the ongoing narrative.

A New Age of Iron: New Draw Steel Campaign

Title: A New Age of Iron System: Draw Steel Platform: Codex (VTT) & Discord (Voice), monthly meetings in person in Chevy Chase, MD (Near Washington, DC) Availability: 1-2 seats available (already have 4 players) Time: Saturdays 2-6 PM EST. Tone: Serious, not quite grimdark. Somewhere between GoT and BG3 Hook: In the shadow of the Iron Covenant, you and a group of other heroes struggle against darkness and tyranny! Requirements: 18+ only, reliable attendance, a solid mic/camera, and a willingness to engage with the setting (Lore primers for different subjects available, further info available at request). If interested, send me a DM on Discord and we can hop in a call and chat for a bit! I am about to start running a narrative- / RP-focused Draw Steel game, and am looking for several players to join this new campaign. We meet on weekly Saturdays for 4 hours, 2PM-6PM. We're looking for excited players, newbies more than welcome. We meet online over discord, and use our cameras, and have an in-person session about once a month! Players should be in the DC/NOVA/Southern Maryland area and have the ability to travel once every month or two to Chevy Chase, MD. All levels of experience with Draw Steel (we're all new but are 5e vets)/roleplaying games are welcome. The game I run uses official Draw Steel rules and ancestries in a homebrew world, but I'm open to reviewing homebrew classes and races if that interests you. I'm running an RP-focused game, so if you're more for the Diablo "kill shit get loot" style, it may not be for you. I have worked with my players to make characters who fit into the world, and will do this with anyone who joins! My only pet peeves are people who are never available/flake and complainers. We do not tolerate hate of any kind at the table. We have a list of lines/veils and some cultural fit things in this google doc, but it isn't necessary to read it before reaching out. Culture Doc If you have any questions, or would like to join, please DM me here or on discord (username QuirkyEclipse)!

How now and well met! My name is Rando, and I have been playing TTRPGs for a very, very, very, long time. Finding myself now with an almost completely open schedule, I am compelled to fill up all this free time playing in campaigns. TTRPG campaigns.  More and more campaigns...  ALL the campaigns!  Yes, yes -- I must play them... Ahem. Apologies...  I am looking for a campaign (or five) to feed my insatiable hunger  join a lively, well-rounded, and sane group of players who like to roleplay, share laughs, make memories, and tell stories collaboratively. New campaign, ongoing campaign, homebrew campaign, published campaign: it does not matter. Whether it is a newly created spot or just subbing in -- new character, fill-in character, NPC, former player's character: I will join your table with glee and vigor.    (note: vigor is extra) I enjoy all three pillars of TTRPGS (combat, roleplay, exploration) and appreciate when there is a healthy balance among them. I am partial to roleplaying, however, as I feel it is the one element you cannot find in other gaming formats. In the TTRPG Rock, Paper, Scissors game that takes place in the deep and cloistered recesses of my mind: ROC > RAI > RAW. I am open to learning and trying new systems.  I am a very easy-going and jocular sort, prone to tomfoolery betimes, but know full well when to wear the frowny mask versus the smiley one. A former teacher, I am very newbie friendly (to both players and GMs), and am gooder than most with the word use-ing for to tell things and show other things and for the explaining.   I write creatively ever and anon when the humour stirs. My favorite color is pizza.

Hey everyone. I'm a tabletop veteran who's recently been getting big into Draw Steel. I'm hoping to join with some friendly, kind, and passionate people for a campaign. I'm open to both online or in-person (Niagara region, Ontario) but I imagine that online is a lot more likely to happen.

Nimble empowers players and GMs with more interesting choices, less waiting around, and have more fun playing epic stories Description Nimble RPG is designed to prioritize speed, tactical decision-making, and reduced administrative tracking for both players and Game Masters. The system condenses character sheets and streamlines the action economy to prevent long waiting periods between player turns. Its primary design philosophy centers on accelerating combat encounters without sacrificing strategic depth, utilizing highly lethal weapon mechanics and dynamic monster behaviors. The game is offered both as a complete standalone system and as a modular "rules hack" booklet that can be integrated directly into an ongoing Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition campaign. System Overview & Key Features Fast Combat Don’t waste your time rolling to see if you can deal damage, just roll your damage dice! You deal that much damage. Attacks miss on a 1, but rolling the maximum is an EXPLODING Critical Hit! Exploding critical hits Roll the die again and add it to the total. There is no limit to how many times this damage can stack, except your luck! Instant Initiative Get RIGHT into combat with Improved Initiative rules that get players immediately into combat in a way that serves the story without breaking up the flow. Quick to prep Nimble is quick to prep and easy to run. You've got enough going on while GMing—Mechanics are all designed to be easy to manage and track at the table. You can be ready to run an adventure in as little as 5 minutes! And there's no need to for new players to read though endless pages of rules, teach new players as you play. Easy to balance Easy Encounter Creation. No matter the size of your party—whether you play in a cozy group with just 1 or 2 heroes, or a huge group of 8 or more—Encounters are easy and intuitive to build and balance for just the right level of challenge you like. Craft massive scale combat encounters, down to legendary solo encounters. Strategic Weapon System A subtly DEEP weapon system that rewards thoughtful play.
