Lost Mine of Phandelver ESL Casual Group
Casual D&D 5.5e, English Practice, and good company
We're a small group of friends who decided to use D&D as a fun and engaging way to practice English as a second language.
We're all Brazilian, but we're absolutely open to people from other countries and speakers of other first languages!
Currently, we have 3 players (2 girls, 1 guy) and 1 male DM.
We've decided it's time to open our little group to new people!
(ssshhh, come closer... just between you and me? It's mostly because scheduling is a bitch, and it'd be nice not to have to cancel a session because only one player showed up or someone forgot we had a session scheduled.)
Our game vibe is casual and friendly. We joke around a lot and don't take ourselves too seriously. Our DM is still relatively new to the role and figuring out his style, so we're learning and growing together!
The DM's English proficiency is around C1, while the players have varying levels, from A2 to C1. Our group is currently between 25 and 35 years old, but we're happy to welcome people outside that age range too.
We usually play every Sunday at 8 PM BRT, although we're flexible and can negotiate the schedule.
We organize our voice calls on Telegram, where we originally met, and use Owlbear Rodeo for our virtual tabletop and D&D Beyond for character sheets.
We welcome players of all D&D experience levels and English proficiency levels!
Native English speakers are more than welcome too! So, if you're new to D&D and would like to learn the game, we can teach you, as long as you don't mind helping the rest of us with our English. Nothing too serious though! We're not asking you to be an unpaid English teacher. Just playing with us and correcting our mistakes every now and then is more than enough!
About the campaign
We've just barely finished the very first dungeon of LMoP, but we paused it to run a separate thing... a little homebrew quest involving a Cult of Cleric Chickens who worship a sort of Chicken Cthulhu.
Hey! Don't just sit there staring at the screen! Hit me up and join us!
Send me a message here, tell me about yourself, what you are like, etc.
(I find it mildly disturbing how ttrpgs are a fun communication game, yet a lot people act like robots when trying to reach out to one another. But don’t worry, I’m here for you if you have a pulse… and a sense of humor, that’d be a promising start.)
