Description

The Hook: In the land of Silvestris, an obscuring mist cloaked the land and denied all who tried entry and with it a prophetic dream. A Bishop from the Eclessia Summus went to the Pontiff and told him of what he saw, a dark growing force that desired to blot out the sun and moon, ushering the end of humanity. And so, the Eclessia Summus sent group after group towards Silvestris, only to learn that they could not enter the kingdom or they were never to be seen again. Eventually, the party was summoned in order to investigate the land, a group of individuals who once had ties to Silvestris in one way or another. Within the darkened land, an old evil has returned. After having been slain centuries ago by the hero Aurelius, the dark sorcerer Alaric has risen from the dead to seek his revenge. General: Hello and thank you for reading my listing, I have nearly a decade of experience with DM/GMing as well as playing, accumulating in thousands of hours both on here and Discord, mostly D&D 5e and Pathfinder 2e though dipping my toes into various other systems like Fabula Ultima, Call of Cthulhu, World of Darkness, etc. A lot of this campaign is going to come from your characters as individuals as it's more Gothic Fantasy than the typical high fantasy adventure. Both related to character hooks and motivations as well as Alaric himself as a character who I wanted to have a lot of depth as an antagonist, or even possibly an ally if the party decides to side with him. Big themes of the campaign are betrayal, revenge, redemption and justice. Rules:
  • For this, all characters will be human to better suit the setting, though who knows if they'll stay that way as the game is played.
  • It has been a while since I have DM'd 5e, so there may be times where I limit things (whether by removal or tweaking) throughout the game if it feels too against the vibe of the setting or overpowered.
  • The starting level is 3
  • We will be using the Gritty rest system. (Though Long Rests will be 3 days)
  • I will allow homebrew only if I get to read it first and agree to it.
  • When designing your character keep gothic/dark fantasy in mind.
And, finally, I would like to thank you all again for taking time to read my listing, I hope you apply and I wish you luck to get in. If you have any questions, feel free to DM me.

Cadaver Resurrected (or, the World Without Dying)

Homebrew
House rules, a custom setting, or a system the Game Master wrote themselves.
Horror
The game leans into fear, tension and dark themes.
Put the premise of 2023's Oppenheimer into the body-horror genre and add the apocalypse: welcome to this homebrew campaign! Trifling with the afterlife created a world where the dead have nowhere to go, and have nothing to separate them from the living. Desperate to survive, kingdoms across the realm have consolidated into single capitals, each self-sufficiently sustaining whole populations—until resources run low. Enter a character-driven tale teetering along political tensions, espionage, social status, omnipresent threats, and above all, control over your body! For this campaign, I’m looking for a party of 5 to 6 people (8 people maximum) interested in a continental, discovery-focused narrative. Meeting times for sessions will depend on everyone’s availability and pre-existing commitments. Discord will be used for whole-group and direct messaging. Our initial sessions will be for deep-dives into the story and worldbuilding, then for party composition and character creations; personal backstories will be developed separately, though prompts and helpful considerations will be released! This campaign uses Foundry vtt, but no costs or fees are required otherwise. This will be a horror- and dark-fantasy-based campaign that relies heavily on consequence and conflict. Obviously, death has a substantial role in this story, so players should not expect to get comfortable for too long. That said, I’m not a DM too fond of permanently killing off PCs on a whim, so let this be of some comfort! Your characters will enter the campaign through the urban and inner-city settings, where you will get a taste of the apocalyptic, survivalist lifestyle common throughout the realm. The story will begin in one of the six major capitals, each with their own agendas and allegiances and rivalries (all of which I will delineate in our initial sessions). Major themes include espionage and political conflicts (often turning into militaristic endeavors and advances), not to mention the overarching thread of escaping an afterlife spillover! Below are some concepts and terms worth familiarizing your character with: The Recrudescence—the day when the afterlife entered the material plane. The exact date is unknown, but most of the realm learned of the afterlife spillover by the end of the summer season. The Shared Sea—the body of water connecting all parts of the realm. The landmass can be visualized as a giant horseshoe or a ring, the middle of which is all water/ocean (hence, the ‘Shared’ Sea). The Storm—principal and largest (and most feared) cluster of afterlife spirits; most easily depicted as a colossal hurricane bouncing from city to city along the Shared Sea. Wandering Spirits—souls/spirits that once belonged to a deceased creature, now searching for a new host (i.e., the body of a living creature);—includes both the souls within Storm and individual or grouped Displaced. Displaced—wandering spirits not part of the Storm. Displaced spirits and the activity thereof attract other Displaced, hence why people are afraid of drawing any attention. Jumpscares—In the event that a creature dies, other adjacent creatures may undergo a jumpscare, during which their spirits (of the living creatures) eject from their host bodies as if being displaced. Jumpscares do not result from displacement, but rather from the death of a host body. For example, if a character kills one creature in a group, the rest of that group may experience jumpscares and have their spirits ejected. Every living creature has the capacity for one soul (without amalgamating, turning malignant, or ascending). A displaced can steal your body and eject your original soul, which in turn becomes displaced. Finally, wandering spirits cannot linger in place or around the creatures whose bodies they failed to assimilate!  If any of this interests you, visit the interest form below to (a) get a more thorough view of what this campaign seeks and (b) further indicate your interest in this grandiose adventure! - https://forms.gle/xn585Qo94JxRZx6F9

What Hides in Mountain Stone

Paid game
The Game Master charges a fee to run the game.
Newbie friendly
New players are welcome, and nobody expects you to know the rules beforehand.
Hello everyone, Alex here! I am a new GM on Start Playing, and I am looking for players for my mini campaign. I am hoping to become a full-time GM and figured this was the best way to start. A bit about me: I've been a GM for 7 years. I am an artist, illustrator, animator, voice actor, and writer. And I absolutely love roleplaying!  Game Premise: In the world of Anangnibi (pronounced Ah-nahng-nee-bee) there looms a threat to the local towns and villages outside of a major port city called Agonan Mizhakwad (pronounced Ah-goh-nahn Meez-hahk-wahd). Reports of attacks have become more frequent and many have claimed to see a flying creature up within the mountains. Maps indicate that there is an old fort that has been empty for quite some time in the area. The local authorities have put up a reward for heroes to go and investigate the area and find out what has been happening. You as the heroes will find yourselves walking into the mountains to find the old hold, and once you get there, you'll find out that you have gotten far more than you bargained for. Who, or what, awaits within the halls of old abandoned stone? And will you survive the secrets within? Or will you be claimed by death much the same as those of the poor raided villages? Death lurks here, cold and indifferent like the sitting stone. You will need your strength and wit if you want to survive. So be prepared to face the challenges and discover the mystery of what hides within the mountain stone. Game Price: $25 per person  Session count: 1-3 sessions Session length: 4-5 hours Player Character Level: 5 System: D&D 5E Sourcebooks accepted: PHB 14, XGE, TCE, VGM (Other sourcebooks are open to discussion) Homebrew and 3rd Party: Open to discussion More information and details about the game can be found here on the Start Playing post: https://startplaying.games/adventure/cmt21mabu0037l404tjn7c32u?ref=cmrmikhi800frl704k6ca84nl  Content warning: While I am a newbie player friendly DM/GM, the game I am running is a DEADLY game with a DEADLY dungeon; your characters have a high chance of dying. Please keep that in mind for this game. If you are not okay with character death, this may not be the game for you.  If you have any additional questions, please feel free to message me, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.  You can also get some more general information about me as a GM, as well as read previous player reviews through my Start Playing GM Profile here:  https://startplaying.games/gm/alexthedmpanda Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Bleach Game Request

Homebrew
House rules, a custom setting, or a system the Game Master wrote themselves.
LGBTQ+ friendly
The table is openly welcoming to LGBTQ+ players.
Hello, My name is blu I'm looking for a group to play with in a bleach based campaign and a DM willing to run it Theres a Source book everyone will be able to get onto for free at all times online and I have saved the CS's thats specially made for the source book, all I'm looking for is up to 3 other players who want to try the class/races within the book and a dm willing to build a campaign based around the SB. I will send or put the SB somewhere in the dis server or if you want to peak at it sooner I can send it to you before joining the server. What would I like to play as? A soul reaper based would be preferable over others but also for extra challenge a hollow campagin could be fun if we can fighure out how to do it. why bleach over normal dnd? 1. why not, 2. bc I really like bleach. how long of a campaign do I want? Up to the dm and players but I'd like a longer campaign. what level to start on? id like to start at level 1 to take the steps of what you are gaining within the book and gain more of a understanding of the class or classes in the SB. Finally where can you contact me? Just dm here and ask, I want to know that I'm getting friended and not just randomly get a friend request and ignore it. 1, big thing I don't want is NO GEN AI AT ALL, please if you like using gen AI please don't bother, I don't want to see AI "art". 2, No homo, trans, or any other phobs, or isims, I won't take it and kick you out of the group myself. IF the group works well together I'd like to dm a Campaign of my own with the same group so if you're dming this campaign you can look forward to a campaign after we're done playing this one. Thank you for reading I hope to see someone or  multiple people ready to play. Blu UwU
