Looking for DM

Hey everyone, We’re a group of 5 players from Europe looking for a DM to join us for a VTT campaign. We wanted to make this post a little differently from the usual “5 players looking for DM” because we know DMing is a lot more than just showing up and running a session. It takes time, effort, creativity, and a lot of behind-the-scenes work, and we really appreciate that. We’re hoping to find someone who wants to be part of the group, not just someone who feels like they’re there to provide entertainment for everyone else. At the moment, we’ve been looking at Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden because we really like the darker atmosphere, survival elements, and overall aesthetic of the setting. That being said, we’re not locked into it and are completely open to other campaigns or ideas if a DM has something they’re excited to run. The following are our main sources of inspiration for the atmosphere, themes, and storytelling we’d love to capture in the D&D winter setting. We’re not looking to bring sci-fi into the world itself—these are simply references for mood, tension, world-building, horror, and narrative ideas. Feel free to take whatever inspires you, ignore what doesn’t, and add your own influences and twists. Inspiration List 1. The Thing 2. The Terror 3. Alien: Isolation 4. SOMA 5. At the Mountains of Madness 6. Dead Space 2 & Dead Space 3 7. Annihilation 8. Black Mountain Side 9. The Hills Have Eyes (reimagined in a frozen wilderness) 10. The Descent 11. The Ritual 12. 30 Days of Night 13. Event Horizon 14. Amnesia: The Bunker 15. Dark Souls 16. Elden Ring The elements we enjoy most are: * Isolation and the feeling of being cut off from civilisation. * Survival against both the environment and whatever lurks within it. * Slow-building suspense and psychological tension. * Paranoia, mistrust, and uncertainty. * Ancient ruins, forgotten civilisations, and lost knowledge. * Cosmic, existential, and Lovecraftian horror. * Creatures that feel mysterious, unsettling, and unknowable rather than simply evil. * Small settlements with hidden secrets. * Harsh, unforgiving winter landscapes where the cold itself is a constant threat. * The sense that we’re uncovering something we were never meant to find. These are inspirations rather than a checklist, so use as much or as little of them as you’d like. A bit about us: We’re a pretty relaxed bunch. We like getting into the game, making memorable moments, and having a laugh when things inevitably go completely off the rails. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we do care about making sure everyone at the table is having a good time. We’re also very aware that a campaign only works when everyone contributes, including the players. As a group, we’re happy to help take some of the workload off the DM where we can. Things like: Helping organise session times and availability Keeping track of notes, lore, NPCs, important events, etc. Having small roles within the group (treasurer, lore keeper, note taker, etc.) Helping with any admin that makes running the game easier We’re flexible with availability and understand that finding a schedule that works for everyone can be one of the hardest parts of running a campaign. What we hope to bring to the table: Players who respect the DM’s time and effort Reliable communication Interest in the world and story being created Willingness to engage with other characters and give everyone their moments Openness to feedback and making adjustments if something isn’t working A good attitude and willingness to roll with unexpected situations Personally, I can’t speak for everyone, but I genuinely feel lucky to have found this group of people to play with. They’re the kind of players I’d happily have at my own table, and we’re hoping to find a DM who feels like they’ve found a group they actually enjoy spending time with. We’re open to different styles of campaigns and would love to chat with anyone who thinks we might be a good fit. If you’re a DM looking for a group that will appreciate the effort you put in and help make the campaign a shared experience, feel free to reach out. Thanks for reading!
