Starlite Frontier
Start Time biweekly Saturdays, 9:30 pm Est
The setting is at what we would consider the late-19th century with elements of the 1700s and the very early 1900s as well. It is overall very low tech, muskets, shotguns, revolvers, not true sci-fi but more advanced than standard dnd. Similar to spelljammer.
In the world of Starlight Frontier setting space travel is as easy as flying, there is no vacuum air and gravity are abundant, the starts do not rest in a void but bust with life, an ocean in the sky there is endless exploration into a seemingly endless universe. That age of exploration and western expansion energy is lasting far longer than it did on earth.
This is a fantasy world, but the genre we are shooting for is Western drama. (At least I've been told my games feel like dramas at times) The genre will likely shift about over time as the players' choices affect the themes and questlines. Going for the vibe of the more grounded western stories, Firefly, the Red Dead Redemption series, etc
Rp and combat are roughly even in my games, but I like to think of combat as danger that occurs within a narrative and your character's story, not a time to pause the story.
The system is a homebrew mix of 5.5 d&d sw5e. Mostly leaning on adapting the latter into the former. Classes like Scout do ranger better than anywhere else. There's many firearms and spells that are delightful additions to dnd. The two systems are relatively identical in power level
All the species and gods are within the classic realm. The deaths of Mugubliet and Grumpsh and the liberation of those under their manipulation is recent history. Most Starwars options are still available, but many will be just a different expression of a dnd ancestry. Such as a Wookie being a firbolg or bugbear.
The changes made to the system as a whole are primarily to the magic using classesto fit them together in the same setting. There are several small quality of life house rules and the biggest homebrew is an experimental overall of spell selection options (we'll discuss whether to use that or not case by case, got 2 players who like it so far)
