Description

The Secret World of Myths Behind the Mist Awaits You All you need is an idea for an ordinary person whose life has become entangled with a myth or fictional character (Preferably one from Greek Mythos or a Videogame). After that, it will be up to you to decide what kind of legend you will become.
Hazecrux is a modern city you won't find on any map outside its borders. It's a place where myth and legend walk beside ordinary people every day. Most will never notice. While Superheros and Magic might be real, an armored knight looks like a police officer in riot gear. A fireball might be remembered as a gas explosion. Impossible events become strange rumors before fading into comfortable explanations. The Mist protects the regulars of humanity from the impossible, rewriting memories and smoothing over the cracks in reality. But some people awaken. They become Rifts, individuals whose lives have become intertwined with ancient myths, legendary heroes, forgotten monsters, fairy tales, gods, and stories older than civilization itself. Those legends grant incredible abilities, but they are never free. Every step deeper into your myth brings greater power... and a greater risk of losing yourself to the story that chose you. Hazecrux has survived catastrophe before. Years ago, an event known only as the Calamity nearly destroyed the city. During the chaos, the mysterious Overseer evacuated thousands into vast underground shelters. Yet salvation came with tragedy. The city's greatest hero, Excelsior, returned from the dead only to become its greatest threat, slaughtering innocents before finally being defeated by a single masked luchador. The age of superheroes ended that day. In their place rose the luchadores—modern champions who protect the city where the old heroes failed. The Overseer vanished soon after. His successor, Tina Bellows, now oversees Hazecrux openly. Even ordinary citizens know her name, though few understand what she truly protects, thinking her just some unelected Governmental official. Challenging her is the charismatic Zander Tombs, a young man with ties to the criminal underworld. He argues the city deserves freedom instead of guardianship. His supporters call him a revolutionary. His critics point to his father is a man whispered to control much of Hazecrux's criminal underworld. As if that weren't enough, a colossal spaceship now hangs over the city that Zander says he controls... along with his gaggle of would be supervillians that follow him. Even the Mist refused to explain that away, letting all see it and the shuttles that descend into the streets dropping who knows what and picking up only Zander knows who. A new faction has emerge. A new part of the City has sprung up in the Barren Fields, Arcaida... the Las Vegas of Hazecrux... a place with an ecclectic feel found only in the Basho. This island on the land feels distinct as the rest of the city sits on a knife's edge. Everyone can tell the world stands on the the cusp of another turning point. And somehow... ...you've become part of the story.
If You Join the Game, You Will Find: Character-Driven Stories Who you care about matters as much as what you can do. Friends, family, lovers, rivals, mentors, and enemies shape the story just as much as ancient powers. Relationships are the heart of the campaign. Mystery and Investigation Every legend hides another secret. Every conspiracy has another layer beneath it. The truth is buried beneath the Mist, and discovering it often raises more questions than answers. Myth Meets Modern Life Ancient gods argue over coffee. Fairy queens negotiate through corporate lawyers. Dragons own businesses. Heroes have mortgages. Legendary stories continue in the modern world, wearing contemporary faces. Meaningful Choices There are no perfect answers. Every alliance has a cost. Every victory changes someone. Your choices won't simply determine how your character grows—they will shape the future of Hazecrux itself. Identity and Transformation The greatest struggle isn't defeating monsters. It's deciding whether you remain yourself or slowly become the myth living inside you. Power always asks something in return. The question is what you're willing to give.
The game is run using Roll20 for tabletop play and Discord for voice and video. Sessions are streamed and recorded for posterity. A microphone is required, and a camera is strongly encouraged. This is a roleplay-heavy campaign centered on mystery, investigation, relationships, and difficult choices. Combat happens, but violence is rarely the solution to the problems that matter most. The game explores mature themes and emotional subject matter, and we maintain an open-door policy so players can comfortably discuss boundaries and sensitive topics. New players are absolutely welcome. Whether you're familiar with City of Mist or completely new to the setting, we'll help you learn as you play. Characters begin as ordinary people whose lives have become touched by myth, and the campaign gradually explores what that means for them and the city around them.
This is a mature game about mystery, mythology, identity, and the stories that define us. It asks not simply what powers you possess, but what kind of person you choose to become when legends begin writing themselves through your life. If you enjoy stories like The Dresden Files, American Gods, Percy Jackson (with a darker tone), Fables, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, or Spider-Man at its most personal, you'll probably feel right at home beneath the Mist.

Premise In the city of Archester, there has always been strange things hiding behind the mist of every corner in the city. However this time, the horror hides just by the outskirts of the city... an unsuspecting rundown motel that looks just like any of the other buildings in the outskirts that are unfortunately not important enough to be maintain by the City's governor or other major private developers. Legend has it that some of the guests that checked into the motel were never seen again... or stories of a cult living inside of the motel have also been heard... And the strangest thing is that just like any other rumour, this very motel seems to have been popping up at different corners of the city... Would you be daring enough to find out the truth of this urban legend? Hello everyone, Alex here! I am a new GM on Start Playing, and I am looking for players for my mini campaign. I am hoping to become a full-time GM and figured this was the best way to start. A bit about me: I've been a GM for 7 years. I am an artist, illustrator, animator, voice actor, and writer. And I absolutely love roleplaying!  Game Premise: In the world of Anangnibi (pronounced Ah-nahng-nee-bee) there looms a threat to the local towns and villages outside of a major port city called Agonan Mizhakwad (pronounced Ah-goh-nahn Meez-hahk-wahd). Reports of attacks have become more frequent and many have claimed to see a flying creature up within the mountains. Maps indicate that there is an old fort that has been empty for quite some time in the area. The local authorities have put up a reward for heroes to go and investigate the area and find out what has been happening. You as the heroes will find yourselves walking into the mountains to find the old hold, and once you get there, you'll find out that you have gotten far more than you bargained for. Who, or what, awaits within the halls of old abandoned stone? And will you survive the secrets within? Or will you be claimed by death much the same as those of the poor raided villages? Death lurks here, cold and indifferent like the sitting stone. You will need your strength and wit if you want to survive. So be prepared to face the challenges and discover the mystery of what hides within the mountain stone. Game Price: $25 per person  Session count: 1-3 sessions Session length: 4-5 hours Player Character Level: 5 System: D&D 5E Sourcebooks accepted: PHB 14, XGE, TCE, VGM (Other sourcebooks are open to discussion) Homebrew and 3rd Party: Open to discussion More information and details about the game can be found here on the Start Playing post: https://startplaying.games/adventure/cmt21mabu0037l404tjn7c32u?ref=cmrmikhi800frl704k6ca84nl  Content warning: While I am a newbie player friendly DM/GM, the game I am running is a DEADLY game with a DEADLY dungeon; your characters have a high chance of dying. Please keep that in mind for this game. If you are not okay with character death, this may not be the game for you.  If you have any additional questions, please feel free to message me, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.  You can also get some more general information about me as a GM, as well as read previous player reviews through my Start Playing GM Profile here:  https://startplaying.games/gm/alexthedmpanda Looking forward to hearing from you soon!

Hello perspective player! I just stumbled on Steel Rift and have made a lite RP, Living World Arena/Tourney/League server!. It is Play-By-Post, with me handling the map and rulings so that it can be time-zone and time-available agnostic! Players are free to schedule between themselves if they want to resolve a match over Tabletop Sim with me as Arbiter, but no one is reqiured to do that. (Also feel free to send pics of physical minis if you want to use/display them! The system is mini-agnostic for anyone interested in playing Steel Rift locally.) There is 1 change I have made so that its easier to manage as a PbP game (inches to Hex Tiles), and there is currently 1 very simple homebrew added. You wont need to buy a copy of the rules, as I have them available on the server. Advanced Rules will be added over time, both to not overwhelm players but also so I can cherry pick what works with the League and missions that I will present players with (and to a lesser extent the flimsy lore I have for this game-world). Players will be a General Purpose Administrator/Logistics A.I., usually manufactured and purchased by Militaries and MegaCorps for admin work on large vessels and in company-cities. In this case though, the players have been purchased by an Underboss of a Redlight planet. They'll be placed in control of the crime faction's Blood Sport Assets in the burgeoning, new Mecha Coliseums popping up all around the seedy ecumenopolis. You'll put together HE-Vs and teams and enter them into Bouts, Tournaments, Leagues, etc. Obtain purses and prizes from wins, bet on other player's matches for side profit, and go Rogue to get out from under the crime boss's thumb! Eventually players will be able to accept contracts off world for MegaCorps and Sovereignties (ala BattleTech style) and will be able to flex more of the mission types and advanced rules over time. I'm running it via a purpose made Discord server and using Tabletop Sim purely so the maps and models will be a bit more exciting than a 2d, top-town grid. There is currently only 1 mechanical roll tied to Roleplay itself (subject to change depending on what players decide to get up to). You can always hit me with ideas and things you'd like to see that we can work together to make happen! If anyone is interested feel free to DM me and ask any questions you might have! A final note: The game is tagged as 18+, please respect that. And if any player has a concern about anything (including regarding me) please feel empowered to bring it to my attention so it can be resolved!
