Update log - July 2026 “Time to schedule”

Hope you are all having a nice summer. While we haven't been bombarding the site with massive updates these past few months, we have been working on things in the background. Just to keep you all somewhat updated and ensured, that we are still actively working on the platform - here is a brief update and check-in. Minor improvements Every now and then we have pushed new and small updates to the platform. Just today, we finally got around to implementing the time & day scheduling to the game posts. So if you have a game post running, be sure to edit it and add the days you are planning on running the game, and at what time the session would be starting. Players looking for games will be also able to filter the groups based on those parameters. Do keep in mind that since the feature is new, almost all of the games listed at the moment are still without a preferred day and time - so they will not be shown to you when you use the filter. But as time goes on and games update their listing, more and more will have those elements. Additionally a few updates were added to the game post creation process - nothing gamebreaking or -changing. Just some convenience factors. .gg We have officially shifted to a new primary web address (although you are free to keep using whichever domain ending you have before - nothing should be negatively affected. But Groupfinder can now be also accessed via groupfinder.gg Even though the platform is global - having the .eu ending seemed to cause more confusion than we had anticipated. But this is more of a cosmetic change - nothing in our core values or goals has changed as a part of this shift. Library evergrowing The library is rapidly growing - every week new entries are added. Some thanks to the help of a few volunteers, to whom we are extremely grateful. It is becoming a proper tabletop gaming resource now. But it will never be complete - we are seeing new tabletop projects and creators pop up all the time - and we would love to be a gateway between them and you. Group Manager This is the biggest element we have been working on since the start of the year (and even before). While not ready to go live - we are anticipating that the day is drawing ever closer by every week and testing cycle. Group manager will be a parallel mode to Groupfinder - a system to manage your.. well.. group. Keep track of timefinder polls to schedule the next session. Share files with your players - or make them private, so that only you can see them - or only some of the players. This will make it easier to keep track of various notes, lore and character backstories. Or just share gifs.. Also a viable approach. But until we have anything more substantial to report - I will be signing off for now. But will keep a watchful and helpful eye on the platform. And if you have a friend or a group that could benefit from using Groupfinder - be sure to tell them about the site - it will be a win-win situation. The more people know about Groupfinder, the faster your games get filled - and the faster you find a group to join. Till next time.

As I'm DM in right now custom world without hombrew rules under DnD 5e 2014-2020 rules. Looking to meet new people, put down DM hat and play some games. Dont really want to play DnD2024(DnD5.5e), open to try other TTRPG  systems, especially pathfinders, mabye older DnD editions. Dont's: horror settings. As I work a full time job, I am looking to play in the evenings (EET/CET); about one day per week (biweekly works too but not preferrable). Feel free to DM me here if you have more questions :) I would be glad to join your adventuring party.

grounded: the helix organizations mistakes

Homebrew Homebrew
Newbie friendly Newbie friendly
The Helix Initiative was introduced to the public as a revolutionary leap in environmental adaptation, biological medicine, and survival science. Officially, the organization claimed it was developing new ways for humanity to survive ecological collapse, disease, and resource shortages. Behind closed doors, however, Helix operated hidden research divisions dedicated to experimentation far beyond legal or ethical limits. Somewhere deep within those divisions, a scientist identified in surviving records only as Dr. W██d████ T████ developed a machine capable of shrinking living organisms to less than an inch tall. The technology was presented internally as a breakthrough in resource efficiency and medical research—but many of the subjects brought into testing were children between the ages of eight and sixteen. Most never returned. You are one of the survivors. After undergoing the procedure, you awaken inside an ordinary city park that has become an impossible wilderness at your scale. Blades of grass tower like trees. Puddles become lakes capable of drowning entire groups. Ants patrol the dirt like armored soldiers, while spiders transform sections of the park into web-choked death zones. Every inch of terrain matters. Every storm is catastrophic. Survival depends on learning how to weaponize the environment itself—crafting tools and defenses from thorns, sap, insect shells, broken plastic, roots, and scavenged debris left behind by previous miniature civilizations that clearly did not survive for long. As you explore deeper into the park, you begin discovering abandoned outposts, collapsed shelters, and fragmented Helix logs detailing increasingly unstable experiments. The records reference attempts to create “evolutions chosen suvivors” capable of evolving beyond normal biological limits. Again and again, one phrase appears alongside heavily censored personnel files: MARROW SYNDROME. The disease slowly destroys the body in stages—first decaying bone tissue, then muscle structure, and finally flooding the lungs with blood. Somewhere among the corrupted files are hints that Dr. W██d████ T████ never joined Helix out of loyalty. Some logs imply he infiltrated the organization to expose its corruption, free the surviving test subjects, and continue researching a cure for a terminally ill child connected to the syndrome. Whether those rumors are true remains uncertain. Helix officially denies the existence of both the disease and the scientist. Not every strange thing in the park comes from Helix laboratories. Survivors occasionally encounter a bizarre figure known only as Rock—a hyper-muscular talking bee obsessed with shouting “MUSCLE” at every possible opportunity. Most groups dismiss him as insane until they realize he understands far more about the park than he should. One moment he acts like a reckless coach forcing terrified children to become stronger, and the next he casually references erased facilities, failed experiments, or “previous attempts” that nobody else remembers. Near the edges of abandoned Helix sectors, Rock sometimes becomes unusually quiet, staring into empty space before muttering warnings that sound less like jokes and more like genuine fear. HE IS WATCHING YOUR EVERY MOVE...

sixter
Hi! I’m Sixter — an Italian bilingual Professional GM and player who’s been happily lost in tabletop RPGs for about fifteen years. As a GM, I’m very much a story-first, character-driven person. I love building living worlds, weaving character backstories into the setting, and giving players room to surprise me. I enjoy roleplay, exploration, social intrigue, horror, historical and high-fantasy settings, and the beautifully ridiculous Rule of Cool moment. I’m just as happy with serious emotional scenes as I am with chaotic party banter. I currently have open slots for a Greek myth-inspired campaign on Daggerheart!  As a player, I'm the local hype-woman and note-taker! I love taking notes, engaging with lore, developing relationships with NPCs and other characters, and finding ways for my character to contribute to the group. Need a wingman to seduce someone? Here I am. Need a chaos gremlin? You're in for a ride. I especially enjoy games where the party feels like a group of people whose stories genuinely intertwine. I’ve played and/or run systems including D&D 5e, Pathfinder 1e, Daggerheart, Delta Green and others, and I’m always curious to discover something new. I’m comfortable with both beginners and experienced players and, as a player, I’m very happy to learn a system from the table. I’m based in Italy (CEST/CET) and tend to be a bit of a night owl, so European and many US-friendly schedules work well for me. Online, I’m comfortable with Discord, Foundry VTT, Roll20 and similar setups. A few things I value wherever I sit at the table, on either side: reliability, kindness, sharing the spotlight, and being genuinely interested in the story everyone is creating together. I don’t need every character to get along — but I do want the players to. If your idea of a great game is one where we can become emotionally invested in fictional people, get excited about lore, make terrible decisions for excellent reasons, and occasionally laugh until we forget what we were doing…I'm your gal.

Prosperon: a Bio-Cyberpunk RPG

Newbie friendly Newbie friendly
No paid games No paid games
I'm a game designer, and I'm looking for a group of great players to help me playtest the crap out of it. Anyone willing to playtest will get a free digital copy of Prosperon on the house. I was thinking of running sessions every other week on Saturdays, since I already run a podcast campaign weekly. If you're interested, sign up and let’s have a blast. To give you an idea of the gameplay style, it’s about 65% roleplay and 35% combat, though that really depends on the group’s dynamics. If you all want more combat, I can absolutely make that happen. The game is a cyberpunk/biopunk mix set in a dystopian society on a distant planet far from Earth. Humanity colonized a world called Khaelmora, later renamed Prosperon by the human settlers. If you're interested, let’s get those dice rolling and have a good time.

Playtesting a fantasy tabletop system

Homebrew Homebrew
Newbie friendly Newbie friendly
TALES From the Loom is a system I've been working on for a few years. The setting is high fantasy with some sci-fi elements sprinkled in. I run free playtesting sessions for groups ranging from 2-6 players, typically for 2-3 hours. The game is pretty quick to learn, promise! Sessions are first come first serve and generally scheduled 1 week ahead of time. Joining the campaign here will let me know you'd like in and I'll send you a DM with some more information! If you enjoy games like: Ironsworn, D&D, Mausritter, Daggerheart or Dragonbane, you may find TFTL compelling! Hope to see you at the table soon! Heres a brief explanation of the core of the system and how it functions: Every roll in TALES is made with a dice pool of D6’s, the number of dice in the pool is noted by the number before the letter “D” e.g., 3D=3d6 You'll roll a pool of dice equal to a skill, and count how many dice show a 4 or higher in most cases. Disadvantage and advantage are represented by lowering or raising the number that counts as a success, either 3 ups or 5 ups. This is heroic fantasy, there's magic, capable heros and in general, good triumphs over evil. Though I will caveat this by saying tftl is much more lethal than other heroic fantasy games, most starting characters have about 2-5 Wounds (hit points or health) and in general most basic attacks inflict 1 Wound, when things go wrong in a fight, they go wrong very fast, for either party, what decides who lives and who doesnt is the dice and your own buy in to the fiction. TFTL rewards player engagment and invenstment in their characters inner life, there are a few systems that support this: -The narrative bonus is a +1 dice to +3 dice bonus that the GM awards you for engaging with the fiction, using clever tactics, and roleplaying your character honestly. You get it by describing actions, using your  characters personality, and backstory in roleplay, and through situational advantages like having the high ground. The reflections system is a journaling mechanic that rewards players for putting themselves in their characters head. After a session, during downtime in game, or whenever the urge arises, you roll on a prompt table and answer the prompt from your characters perspective. Then once you show the GM you get a +1 Dice bonus to any roll outside of combat in the next session. Exploration is a two sided mechanic, first you gather "discovery threads" in town, gathering rumors, studying old texts and maps or bribing locals for information about your current area. When your party ventures into unknown wilds, you can spend your gathered threads to make finding landmarks and mysteries easier, and the best part? You can level up by engaging with this mechanic, without ever drawing a blade or casting a spell. Theres a reputation system, crafting, lightning fast gridless combat, and more to explore within TALES From the Loom! So I hope you'll sign on for a free game, and come tell a tale or two at my table.

Covering the basics: Making a character

Covering the basics
“Covering the basics” is a easy-to-follow set of articles helping players get through the first steps of the game. You found a game to join? Well done, but now what? A character What makes a good character to play? Is it optimizing your stats to be the most overpowered character? Picking the right skills, feats, powers or spells? For some players, yes - that is important. And at the end of the day, you don’t want to end up with a character who will be outdone by everyone else in your party. But at the same time, your character should be more than just useful - they should be interesting. They are more than just “Human Fighter” or an “Elf Ranger”. When creating a character, what is important, but to create a character the other players and the world will want to interact with, focusing on who is even more vital. We will not be focusing on the intricate details of how you should create your character sheet, instead the article will serve as a guideline of how to flesh out your new hero (or anti-hero). /images/general-media/1776695082_Yb187gsl.jpgYour character should be more than just a two-dimensional adventurer. Make them real and the game will treat them as such. Who is your character? To start weaving your character into someone interesting, you need to find that core concept to start building around.   For inspiration, think back at some characters from a book, movie, tv show, game or real life. Find someone that has that core essence that you feel would be interesting to roleplay. Perhaps Rincewind the tourist from Discworld, Beorn from The Hobbit, Donna from Doctor Who or perhaps Esquie from Clair Obscur. Whichever character comes to you as someone you’d like to somehow pay homage to, can be worked with. Think of what makes that character interesting to you, is it their attitude towards problems, other people or nature. Are they clumsy, perceptive, analytical or indifferent towards things? The way they see the world is a great direction to have. Now the end-goal is not to copy the character 1 to 1. That is almost never going to work. The nature of the game is likely to be very much based on random outcomes, no matter how well-planned and foolproof your approach is. As dice determine the success of various attempts, it is best to keep that in mind.   A bad roll can turn your James Bond into Johnny English. Flesh them out If you have a core concept, you can start working on making them more real. Ask yourself various questions about them. “What made them like this?” “Why would they be adventuring?” “Is there a problem they are running from?” “What is their favourite dish?” Yes, even figuring out their favourite food can be a great process of figuring out who they are. It might not be a fact that would ever come to play, but can be a good stepping stone to actually understanding them. Knowing their favourite dish or colour can be helpful when diving deeper into that answer. Their favourite colour is pink - why? Did they grow up in a house that had pink wallpaper? Or was there an ever-blooming cherry blossom tree that they have fond memories of? Where was that tree? Does it hold some significance to them? Was there another person involved with that fondness? What happened to them? And so forth. Just like actual humans have preferences that don’t derive from nothing - neither should your character. The more you ask, the more real they become through this. It is highly recommended to write those points down - so you have a written understanding of them. And you can later refer back to the document to remind yourself of who they are. /images/general-media/1776695107_mBmxHoQ9.jpgWhat made them like this? A tragic event in their past or a goal they haven't yet reached? Backstory Ask your GM questions about the world and the setting. The more you understand, the easier it will be for you to place them there. If your GM is willing to work with you to flesh out the world around your character’s past, you will end up adding towns, locations, events and traditions to their world.   You may find it difficult to write your character’s backstory. You are not a writer, at least thats what you keep telling yourself. Doesn’t matter - your GM is hardly expecting you to write an eloquent piece of literary history. And that is not really that important. What is, is to know where your character came from - do they have a past that slowly catches up to them. A debt that will eventually have to be repaid. Or a goal that they are striving towards, as they have set out on their adventuring path. You shouldn’t try to aim for a 7-page backstory from the start. Some GMs might find backstories that are too detailed and long to be counter-productive. But setting where they grew up, with whom they interacted back then - how they grew up and mark down some important events that formed them as a character. Think back to the core concept of your character - and reverse-engineer your way towards the events and reasons why they ended up that way. Generative AI Now that various AI tools exist, players might find it easy to prompt the LLM with something like “Write a backstory for my elf ranger. When they were young, their parents abandoned them in a forest. There, wolves adopted them. But the wolves also abandoned them. Now they trust nobody. Their aspiration, though they keep it a secret from others, is to open a bakery.” And AI will give you a long backstory to work with.   But you are not done. Don’t just copy-paste it into a document and send it to your GM for approval. While using Gemini, ChatGPT or any other AI tool is useful for fleshing out some ideas, you need to make sure they are your ideas. You can take the draft you have been provided with and start working on the details - AI is unlikely to understand your character perfectly - what it is, that got you interested in them in the first place. Remove, add, rewrite and polish the initial draft. Make sure it is consistent with the world your GM has given you. And once you are done with an initial version, take some time and read through the whole backstory. Does it make sense to you? Do they feel real? And is the core idea still present? At the end of the day, it is your character. Using various tools to help you flesh out is helpful, but you should know them better than anyone else. Consider making a short summary section for you and the GM to reference later. Highlight various bits that are important to you. Connecting people Your character doesn’t have to be a lone wolf in the world. At times it can be better and more convenient to connect your character with another player’s.   Talk with your party before the game and see if you can find some common ground with some other character. Perhaps they were childhood friends, but drifted apart. Or perhaps they met once on opposite sides of a battlefield. Creating a connection to another character can make it easier for your GM to connect them to their world.   A shared past can be a great framework to make sure your party ends up as a cohesive group, not just “written together”. Your Game Master will have their hands full with various aspects of running the game, they will appreciate it, if you hand them characters that have a reason to adventure together. /images/general-media/1776695187_W8cxu9E4.jpgYour character's journey is just beginning. A good backstory is a great foundation to build on. Work in progress Your character should not be something that is completed once the first session rolls around. Instead feel free to add bits and pieces as you discover the world through playing. You are bound to find new aspects of the world, that your character could be connected to. Of course make sure that your GM is notified of these additions. And that it still fits with their vision of the game. Find your story If you have a great idea that you want to play with, but haven't found a game to play yet. Look at the games that are looking for players. Or post your player profile and find a tabletop rpg group to play with.
