Update log - August 2026 “Group manager”

Oh boy. This is going to be a lot of things to talk about. We have been busy and productive. But, as is tradition - here is an update on the updates we have added - We have Group manager, post listings updates, library redesign, timezone filtering, game applications and some more. So here we go. Group manager We'll start with the biggest new feature on Groupfinder. The Group manager. This has been something we have been working on since the start of the year and now finally got around to releasing it.  /images/general-media/1786708533_fHKbu2AS.png What it is, is the logical next step from Groupfinder's core function. Once you find a group, you can move everything to the manager and keep track of your players, your documents, notes, maps, images, links, polls, timefinder polls and session notes. As an integrated part of the platform it will help you keep everything organized and in one place. You can read more about the manager on this info page we created.  But to break it down simply, here is a list of all the base functionalities: /images/manager-info/group-overview.png Manager dashboard As a group owner/GM, you can create a manager group within moments - Enter the game's name, add some illustrative images and the group is created. On the dashboard you can start adding images, organizing documents and inviting your players. Asset management All documents most likely should not be visible to all members. You can set different view and edit permissions for each category. For example, create a separate category for "The Goblin Boys" and let only your goblin players see the contents. You can share forbidden goblin knowledge with only them. Or create a category, that everyone can see for your worldbuilding lore bits. The map of the world, the overall history of the campaign or an illustration of the tavernkeeper that already hates your PCs. We cannot describe all the possibilities and approaches, as we imagine you will all find a different way to interact and organize your games. And more power to you - this is your group manager, we only provide the framework. Player folders To keep specific assets private, you can find a folder on the right side of every member. This is a folder that only the group owner and that specific user can see - no external prying eyes allowed. Timefinder Scheduling is the biggest boss of tabletop gaming? Pretty much. While we cannot create a tool that completely solves it - we have timefinder - a scheduling poll system to settle on the next date that works for everyone. Session notes Players forgetting what happened last time, only to be reminded moments before the session starts that they are about to fight the BBEG? Write a session note after the last game and make it easier for your players to remember what happened last time and what the current direction is. Session notes can also be useful when trying to go back in time to know where the downward spiral of your campaign began. In addition players can leave session feedback. Things they liked and things they didn't. This will help any GM improve by focusing more on aspects the players enjoyed and cut back or rethink parts that didn't really jive with them. Polls, questionnaires and safety tools Group manager has interactive assets for you to use to settle on a specific question, understand the players' preferences and make sure everyone is enjoying the game, by having everyone fill a safety tool questionnaire. You never know if you don't ask. And there is more to discover. You will get the best idea of what and how the manager works by just tinkering and trying it out on your own. You can switch over to (and from) the manager by interacting with the finder/manager button in the menu. /images/general-media/1786709626_5gGr5AH5.png Post listings update We updated both the player and games listings pages. With added subcategories to quickly filter and find specific types of posts, you should find it easier to only find what you are looking for. /images/general-media/1786709750_LLT1IETF.png With this update, Groupfinder is now welcoming all West Marches games, when before we were rather hesitant about groups with no fixed amount of seats. Library redesign The library has slowly grown into one of our core elements. And the library, while practical, was due some attention. And boy - it definitely got some. With this update, the entries have a more logical layout. The tabletop community has tons of interesting games, projects and creators. We are all about empowering and helping you spread the word. /images/general-media/1786710068_3ifxmq5c.png If we created an entry for you in the past - be sure to visit your page and claim it. Once we approve your claim, you will have access to editing and improving it. And if one of your favourite creators, projects or game systems is in the library, be sure to pop over and click that "Recommend" button - this will help them a lot, as they will become more visible in the library. Timezone filtering Timezones and filtering by time and day were a thing many of you had asked for throughout many months. While we understood the need for such filtering options, we couldn't pin down exactly HOW the filtering should work. Well, now we did - now you can either look games by selecting your timezone (and the deviation) or by selecting specific weekdays and expected game starting times. /images/general-media/1786710633_01LM4ygV.pngYou should be able to use the filters to find games that work with your schedule. Game applications Want your potential players to fill out an application, to make sure they are a good fit for your game? You can build a game application that users can fill out. If they seem like a good match - get in touch with them and invite them to the group you created via group manager (See how this all ties together nicely?). /images/general-media/1786710844_lwLsPRj0.png And many other smaller updates This update log is long enough as it is - but there are many other smaller updates and improvements to discover and utilize. But hopefully we are steering Groupfinder in the right direction to make it even better for everyone to use and eventually start playing. If you have any feedback or critique - we welcome it all. Either use the Contact us button, or join our Discord server and we can chat there. The team is there ready to listen and help. Be sure to try out our new Group manager and share your feedback and ideas with us. Till next time.

Faendel: return to the abyss.

Newbie friendly Newbie friendly
🎲 LOOKING FOR D&D PLAYERS 🎲 Hey everyone! I’m looking for 2 to 6 players for a new D&D campaign set in my original world, Faendel. New players are absolutely welcome. You don’t need any experience with D&D. I’ve been a DM for 10+ years, I’ve taken 2 improv classes, and I’m also an experienced fantasy story writer. My goal is to make this fun, welcoming, and easy to get into, especially if you’ve never played before. 👥 2 to 6 players 🎲 5e based system 💻 Hosted through Discord 🗺️ Maps and visual aids 🤖 Custom bot generation for maps, character sheets, artwork and other resources we might need 📅 Saturdays or Sundays depending on everyone’s schedules ⏰ Extremely flexible scheduling 🌎 ABOUT FAENDEL Faendel is a world I’ve been building over the years through my D&D campaigns. The lore wasn’t created entirely by me. A huge part of Faendel’s history was created by the players who have participated in my campaigns. I’ve done the majority of the writing and brought everything together, but the players’ decisions, characters, actions and consequences have shaped the world itself. What your character does matters. Your choices can change characters, locations, history and even the future of the setting. Things that happen during your campaign can become permanent parts of Faendel’s lore. You aren’t just playing through a story I already wrote. You’re helping write the next part of it. 🌊 THE CAMPAIGN The campaign takes place during the Third Era of Faendel, around the years 570 to 580. Faendel is a world where the oceans have always been deadly. Something as simple as falling into the sea can mean death. Long ago, strange portals began appearing across the world, bringing people, creatures and entire civilizations from places that should never have been able to reach Faendel. Because of this, your character has a lot of freedom. You can be from Faendel, or you can come from another world entirely. Your character can be a traditional fantasy adventurer or something much more unusual. The portals have brought all kinds of people into this world. You’ll begin at your weakest point and grow from there as you explore Faendel, meet its people and discover why you ended up here. The campaign will focus on exploration, character development, player choice, combat and uncovering the secrets of the world. You don’t need to know the lore beforehand. You don’t need to know the rules. I’ll help you build your character and teach you everything as we play. 🎭 ONE SHOT OR FULL CAMPAIGN? This can start as a one shot. If everyone has fun and the party wants to continue, we can turn it into a full length campaign and keep building the story from there. There’s no pressure to commit to a huge campaign before you even know if you enjoy playing together. 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 SESSION 0 IS COMPLETELY FREE Before anyone commits to anything, we’ll have a free Session 0 where we can: • Meet each other • Get to know me as the DM • Talk about what everyone wants from the game • Create characters • Go over the basics of D&D • Discuss the world and campaign lore • Talk about boundaries and themes • Figure out scheduling There is no financial requirement to play. If you enjoy the game and want to support me, tips are always appreciated and completely welcome, but they are never required. I’m currently going through some difficult financial circumstances, so any support genuinely means a lot to me. At the same time, I don’t want money to be the reason someone misses out on getting to experience D&D. If you’ve wanted to try D&D but never had a group, or you’re an experienced player looking for a new world to explore, feel free to reach out. 📩 Comment below or message me if you’re interested! Come help me add another chapter to Faendel. You never know what your character might end up becoming a part of. 🎲

Hello and welcome to your first adventure in the world of Dungeons & Dragons! If you want to join a fresh adventure but are not sure where to start, this is the perfect place for you. I am Glacial (gringo), an experienced Dungeon Master with over 12 years of experience running various TTRPGs such as Cyberpunk RED, D&D 5e, D&D 2024 (5.5e), and Daggerheart. Even though I have GMed for many different groups all over the world, my favorite remains Dungeons & Dragons—especially for beginners. I just can't get enough of seeing people discover this game (the best game ever made) for the very first time! I currently host a Discord server with over 40 players, most of whom are currently playing or have played in my games. You are more than welcome to hop in and ask them about the campaigns we've run! We have a great global community with players from the US, UK, Poland, Hungary, Finland, Romania, Germany, and beyond. The Campaign: A Customized Faerûn Experience Now that the introductions are out of the way, let me present you with my completely customized Faerûn experience! In this game, you will have the chance to be part of a story that revolves fully around your character's lore. I take the well-known world of Abeir-Toril and Faerûn—including iconic locations like Baldur's Gate, Waterdeep, Candlekeep, and Neverwinter—and build a brand-new campaign setting after discussing interests with my players. We could go on an adventure all the way to the Thay Mountains to battle the Red Wizards, venture into the dangerous jungles of Chult to uncover the mysteries of a forgotten land, or stick to the crowded, familiar cities of the Sword Coast where adventures are always abound. What You Need to Jump In The only things you need to do are add me on Discord, have a working microphone, and set up a Roll20 account (which I am happy to help you with). I will explain everything else! I will make sure everyone at the table knows how to play, and I will walk you through character creation step-by-step. You need literally zero experience to join. With that said, experienced players are also fully welcome! The cost of the game will be ranging from: $15 - $20 depending on the days we choose and the number of players.  What are you waiting for? Add me on Discord: gringo1380

About Freelancers The Osmosis Galaxy. The only one that life as we know it, inhabits. One with its own oddities, but for which we take for granted. And for the longest of time... we thought there were no frontiers left. No unexplored regions to search and traverse. Apparently, we were wrong. Even if the old Osmosis Confederation has been dissolved for four decades, it seems those who've taken from their ashes, have begun making their moves. Their rump-state successors on Mandas, the home of all of Humanity, still continues to decay silently. But after the treaty of Sorreuire, another entity sprung into action... The ASTROMINA™ Corporation, armed with many stubborn veteran fleets and soldiery from the old Confederation, turned back the Confederation's eldest adversary: The Velixian Imperium. Staking its claims of space from Samn Hocc, all the way down to Vispensis and Octora. It may be small, but these systems and worlds, were once the heart of the Confederation's economy. With this new-found productivity and economy, their leadership turned to governing their taken spoils. But one of them, unknown to all but his representative to the Board of Directors, has other plans. He recently began hiring mercenaries, laid-off veterans, and many other people. As personal soldiers of his. Mercenaries, whom eithere were trained, or went through training, to become on the level of spec-ops units. All apart of a project he called the "Freelancers Program". Although they're tasked with missions, meant for in-general espionage, targeted sabotage, and mission-assistance to the corporation's Corporate Armed Forces, this unknown ringleader had another idea in mind. Unbeknownst to others, he sent a special contingent of them to the Sardia system. The closest to the galaxy's resident anomaly: The Photonic Curtain. A ring of pure photons, a curtain of light that interrupted the FTL systems of anyone who came even 100's of Astrons to its outer edge. Under the pretense of eliminating resistance from the galactic fringe-dregs known as the Pioneers, this special Freelancers contingent makes it way to the Sardia system. Supported by a small Corporate Naval escort. While they make for the surface of worlds like the swamp-world Coscia, this unknown head of state, plans to move them past the Photonic Curtain. Even if means he'll have to brute force the crossing, past the blinding lights that make up the curtain. As for you, those of the newest batch of Team Theta? You'll simply have to endure on Coscia. Whatever that entails, you have a mission to do. Best get to it. What you'll find in Freelancers a. An entirely unique and interesting world, complete with a full homebrew system that plays into the "Mercenary/Spec-Ops" gameplay of the setting. b. Lots of choices to make, and room to travel to unknown and previously unexplored systems and worlds. Beyond the outer shell of the "Photonic Curtain" c. NPCs that become your "Companions"; Those that'll join you in your missions, and fight alongside you. As well as having relational dispositions towards you and others, that you may influence and later find out about. d. Even as a Freelancer, your backstory and legacy impacts the lore of the world. e. Though serious enough, there are still light-hearted moments that may appear to cheer you up or give you a decent chuckle f. And a lot more for you to find out about! Does any of this, or all of it, sound excellent to you? I hope so! DM me if you are, and if you can, include any further questions you may have about the roleplay. I hope to see you soon, Freelancer!

Hello I'd be interested in joining a group if possible.  I am available Mon-sun starting at 7pm est except wed. I rarely miss sessions and if I think there's even a possibility, I would give a heads up. I don't mind if it's already ongoing as long as it's not to far in. I enjoy character bonding as a group and as individuals and my favorite thing about DND is creating backstories.  I have a few lined up that I typically discuss with the DM to see which would be the best fit. One backstory for a example is a human rogue who's a member of a f very powerful crime family. Though he's in hiding since he's constantly getting in there way of business to ruin it. I also try to get everyone involved if I notice someone having trouble getting involved. I do prefer to focus more on the game than talking outside of game.

How to write a great player profile that helps you find a DnD group

Guides
Why your bio matters If you want to find a dungeons and dragons group, you should keep in mind, that the player to DM ratio is heavily skewed against you. Most DMs receive up to 10 applications per player seat. Having a great player profile will help you stand out and will create a good first impression. Finding a dnd group has a lot in common with online dating. Leaving a good first impression, seeming reliable, trustworthy and willing to commit - these are all important either on a dating profile or when creating a player profile. If your thinking is “If they want to know more about me, they will ask.” It is very likely that they won’t. Remember that you are fighting an uphill battle. Groups aren’t really facing a shortage of players and you need to use any tool and skill you have to display yourself as someone they want to have in their group. Ofcourse it will be a balancing act - introducing yourself in as much detail as possible, while not ending up with more paragraphs than a book. The anatomy of a player bio Preferences, playstyle, experience, logistics, reservations and much more - all of these are things that help a Dungeon Master find the right person to even start a discussion with. If your profile introduces you on a superficial level: “Hello, I am Holger and I would love to find a group to play with.” Then you aren’t really saying much (other than your name, which is a good start). /images/general-media/1774870056_ib7o9mRg.gifThis could be you. Playstyle Are you someone who enjoys roleplay above anything else? Or do your eyes light up whenever the DM tells you all to “Roll Initiative”? Perhaps you find enjoyment in both deep character interactions, social encounters but when need be, have a good understanding of how combat works and enjoy casting fireball too close to your fighter (It happens…). If you know what you’d prefer in a game, be sure to explain which core pillars of the game you enjoy - a game that is all about dungeon crawling and heavy combat situations will not be something a roleplay-focused player will find as enjoyable as one with political intrigue, social manipulation or characters with a deep and devious backstory. You can pick and add various tags to go with your post. Groups filtering players by “Roleplay focused” will find you, if your profile has that tag added to it. Adding tags in addition to describing your preferences in the bio is a powerful tool. Experience level Have you played Dungeons & Dragons before? If not - don’t feel discouraged. There are new players discovering DnD every day and a newcomer is not a rare sight. Whether you've played the D&D 2014 rules version or are a newcomer starting fresh with the 2024 revised edition, tell the reader which version you are interested in playing. It can be both, if you are not overly picky. Many Dungeon Masters, either new themselves or veterans of the hobby, happily welcome new players to their tables. If they are just starting out with DnD and bravely decided to take up the role of the DM immediately (These players are heroes), they are very likely to enjoy other players with less experience. This is not to say that veterans are not suitable for their games, if the ones with experience are capable and willing to explain, guide and correct (when needed/asked). Nobody wants a “rules lawyer” player who insists on “Um Actually…” whenever the DM calls for a Perception roll, although Investigation might’ve been more appropriate. There are also veteran DMs who enjoy hosting newcomers at their games. Making sure that they understand the basics of the game, the core elements and grow them into capable players who will understand the game and how to be a great player.   Having previous experience is not a requirement. But being honest about it is a must. You are unlikely to not get “caught” if you attempt to overplay your experience. And that will just leave a bad impression of you. Logistics and location Whether you are looking for an online game, or seeking for an in-person at-a-table group, make sure to be specific. For online games, mark down your timezone. This will help you find a game, that won’t start after midnight, or early in the morning (Unless this fits well with your schedule). Joining a group where for other players it is 6PM, but you just woke up and are still working through your bowl of cereal, might not be the best fit. /images/general-media/1774870467_hf8VVPRp.pngThere are players from all across the world (also in regions that did not fit on this map. This is not the entire world, even though some bands arranging their"World Tour" see it that way) If you are trying to join an in-person game, mark your location. This isn’t to say, that give out your home address - don’t do that. There is no reason for that and putting specific personal information out there is a bad idea in general. Pick the closest town or city to you. On Groupfinder the search isn’t restricted to specific locations, but on a radius. If a DM, looking for players is searching around their area and your town falls into their search radius - they will find you.   If you have a specific schedule or time prerefences - mark those down. If you can only play from 6PM to 11PM on Wednesdays - make sure that this is clear to understand and see. You can even double down on timezones and repeat what timezone your 6PM is in. A fun fact You are not just timezones, experiences and preferences. You are a human being with a personality and thoughts. Perhaps you have a character concept that you would love to try out. A ranger that is afraid of trees, a wizard that is illiterate or a rogue that hates doing crime. Write a short introduction of that character - this will also give the DM an understanding on how you would approach the game. If you are not someone, who creates characters to store in your drawer, then this is perfectly acceptable. Many players create a character to fit the world/game they are going to join and craft it based on the lore and history of it. In addition to a pre-created character, you can list books, shows, movies that you enjoy (that could be seen as your theme or playstyle preferences). This will describe your type of fantasy to anyone reading. Love Discworld? Write it down. Not overly excited about lovecraftian horrors - understandable. Weak versus good bio: a comparison While these should be taken with a grain of salt, here are two approaches - one illustrating a superficial approach and one that shows that you put in some effort. That effort will be seen as a “green flag”. You show yourself as someone who is actually willing to put in the work when it comes to a game or crafting a great character that enhances the game. Weak bio “I want to play a rogue or a ranger. I’m free on the weekends.” Good bio “Hello. I am a 3-year veteran looking for a bi-weekly group on either Thursdays or Fridays (available after 6PM (GMT)). If life doesn’t unexpectedly come in the way, I am reliable and can commit to consistently showing up to on the game night. I enjoy character-driven games and social intrigue. In no way against combat but I would prefer to find a game with a stronger focus on the roleplay side of things. Very okay with games where our characters can die in reasonable scenarios. I am a huge fan of The Stormlight Archive series and The Kingkiller Chronicle.” These are general examples - not something you should be imitating almost word for word. But should be taken as a directing guide when you are creating or updating your profile. /images/general-media/1774870655_Tmq1TOe5.gifYou are all set now. Ready to be invited? Appendix N: Inspirational and Educational Reading is from the back pages of the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Dungeon Master’s Guide and it outlines the authors and works of fiction that the creators of Dungeons & Dragons encouraged us to read for inspiration. The Appendix N Book Club is our opportunity to read and discuss these books, imagine how they inspired the original iterations of the game, and to brainstorm how we can use them in our games today.
